How to: Use and Maintenance of Your Gas Fireplace
This video will show you how to turn on your fireplace and how to open the glass front in order to clean it.
Start by removing the front grill. To do this, lift up on the grill, then pull it out and away. First, check that the gas valve in both the mechanical room and at the bottom of the fireplace is in the “on” position. This means the valve should be parallel to the gas line.
Next, turn the function knob to “Pilot.” While holding this knob down, simultaneously press the igniter switch. You may need to press it a few times. When you see the pilot is lit inside the fireplace, you can release the button. If the pilot goes out after releasing the button, repeat the process of holding down the knob and pressing the igniter.
Now, turn the knob to the “on” position. If you are using a wall switch, you can now activate the fireplace by turning the switch on. If you have a remote control, check that the batteries in the receiver under the fireplace, as well as the remote, are good. Then, switch the selector switch for the remote receiver to the “remote” setting.
There will be a strong smell when you first use your fireplace, but this will usually go away after roughly eight hours of use. It is recommended that you leave your pilot light lit during the entire winter to combat backdraft into your home.
To clean the inside of the glass, begin by removing the clips at the front. They are spring-loaded, so you just need to pull them forward and up. The glass will then pivot out. You can take a rag and wipe the glass off, and if you choose to use a cleaner, make sure it is rated for high heat use.
Once you’re done cleaning, push the glass back in place and reinstall the clips. To complete the job, take the grill and reinstall it by placing it down into position, lifting up, and locking it into place.
