How-to: Adjust your HRV (Heating Recovery Ventilator)

This is the control unit for an HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilation) system, found in most new homes and all Phoenix homes. Here, we have the selector switch that allows you to turn the unit off, set it to the minimum setting, or set it to the maximum setting.

The minimum setting should generally be used at all times unless you have pets, smokers in the house, are doing a lot of cooking, or are hosting an event like a party. In those cases, you can switch to the maximum setting on the fan.

There is also a selector switch that needs to be adjusted throughout the year based on the outside ambient temperature. In the summer months, it should be set to the end of the comfort zone indicating 5 degrees Celsius and above. However, as winter approaches, you’ll need to adjust the knob based on the outside temperatures.

The HRV unit helps to exchange the air in your home, providing fresher air more frequently than the furnace unit would on its own.
