How-to: Adjust your Hydraulic Door Closer

This is a typical hydraulic door closer, installed on the entry door from the garage into the home. It is required by code to automatically close the door when released from a 90° position.

If you find that the door is not closing entirely, you can adjust the force of the door closer by rotating the two screws using a flathead screwdriver. If you have young children, you may want to decrease the forcefulness of the door closer to avoid any incidents where children could be struck by the door.

This door needs to be able to close on its own when released from a 90° position to meet code requirements.
